Playing Sports

In rugby I have played the sport at various levels, achieving playing at Bridgend District level from Under 11 to Under 16’s. I have been lucky to have been involved in a number of tours to countries such as France, Canada and South Africa. In 2006 I took part in a tour to South Africa as a player for my schools Senior Rugby squad. In 2010 I returned to South Africa with the schools Senior Rugby squad but this time as one of the coaches, responsible for fitness and skills. To be able to attend the 2010 tour I was provided with a grant from the University of Worcester which was given to me following stiff competition from other worthy parties. This achievement was featured in the local newspapers and on the University website.

In football I have been very lucky to be part of some very good teams which have reached finals and won leagues and I have also been captain of various teams from the ages of 15 to 18. At Under 16 level, following a series of trials, I was chosen to be part of the Cardiff City Academy (Bridgend District) Squad. This squad played regularly against the Cardiff District squad of the Academy which put me in direct opposition to current Welsh players such as Aaron Ramsey and Chris Gunter. Last year I contacted Aaron to get his views on sports injuries (following his horrific ankle injury) as part of a report I was preparing for one of my modules – unfortunately Arsenal would not let him take part in the interview but it kept the contact going with him. At Under 16 level I also took part in a series of trials for the Boys Club of Wales but unfortunately did not get into the final squad.

The greatest experience ever - the CN Tower Edgewalk and today I went and did it (see photo on Home page). Standing (outside of the CN Tower) on the edge of a metal platform 1147 feet up in the air and held there by two tethers - open to the elements. It was so much fun and it even snowed
